POST B'NAI MITZVAH - NOAR

 

Are you interested in our post Bnai Mitzvah programs at CTJ? This year there are three different options that will provide you the opportunity to contribute to your Jewish community, be a role model, earn money and gain vital experiences that will benefit you in the future.

 

 

 

 

I.     First year: Ozrim – Hebrew School Assistants:  8th & 9th grade

Responsibilities:       You will be assigned tasks such as preparing materials for classes and holidays, setting up the snack, development and facilitating learning centers for special programs, as well as general office tasks such as answering the phone, envelope stuffing, computer work, copying, etc.

All Ozrim will also assist with t’filah and hafsakah.

Requirement:    8th grader or 9th grader and in the Noar program.

Compensation: Community Service.

II.               Madrichim -Classroom assistant:  9th grade and up

Responsibilities:       The Madrich will be assigned to a classroom to work with a teacher and will also assist with t’filah (services),and hafsakah (recess).

Requirement:    Noar members who worked for at least one year at CTJ and attended the Madrichim training in September.

 

General Program Guidelines

Days and Times: Tuesday or Wednesday- 4PM-6:30PM

                             Sunday-9AM-11:15AM or 10:45AM-1PM  

Start Date:

·        Madrichim training orientation Seminar:

            Wednesday, September 9th- 6:30-7:15PM

·        First day of school: Sunday, September 13 ,2009

Compensation: $25 per month Honorarium or community service

(1 sick day) 

 

 

MIDRASHA- CTJ 10th Grade Confirmation Program

 

Structure

  1. Every other week, CTJ will offer one-hour courses for the Midrasha Confirmation program.  Students must accrue at least 10 hours of class time.  Courses will be taught by Joey Gold, Rebeccah Yussman, Marissa Sharpe, CTJ Clergy and guest teachers.
  2. Students must also accrue a certain number of community service hours outside of the Madrichim program – This may include Purim carnival staffing, retreat, Mitzvah seder, extra chaperones on field trips, plus events organized for the program.
  3. A capstone project will be required at the end of the year to reflect the students’ knowledge and interest.  Some ideas for projects may include: articles to be published, a project to benefit the community, an educational program for the school, etc.

 

Benefits for Students

  • Students will receive certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation for college/ work 
  • Students will participate in end-of-year honoring ceremony
  • Students will be featured in newsletter, plus booklet put together with their capstone projects
  • Students will be eligible to participate in a trip to the AIPAC conference

 

Framework

10th grade and up students must complete 24 hours of Midrasha in order to graduate from the program. The hours may be completed by attending class, volunteering and completing a project.

·        All students must attend at least 10 Midrasha classes on Wednesday nights.

·        All students must volunteer for at least 10 hours (at CTJ or other social action work)

·        All students must complete a social action/ Torah study project which will earn them 3-6 hours of Midrasha credits. Students may use their social action hours towards their research for their Midrasha project. All project must be turned in to Rabbi Mark by May 18th (Erev Shavuot)

 

How to Apply?

 

To sign up for this program, students must enroll in the Noar program and make a note that they interested in Midrasha. Midrash is included in the Noar tuition. Some additional cost may apply for field trips and the trip the AIPAC conference. All Midrasha students must apply for the program by completing the following form and attending a short interview with the Director of Education.
