Free of charge testing for BRCA gene for women and men age 25 or older with at least one grandparent of Ashkenazi ancestry.
A new, independent research initiative that seeks to increase access to testing for women and men age 25 or older with at least one grandparent of Ashkenazi (Eastern European) ancestry. This group is at least 10 times more likely than the general population to inherit certain kinds of BRCA mutations. Most of those at risk do not know they carry the mutated gene.
The testing — offered at no cost to the participant — will provide patients, families, and their doctors with knowledge that can reduce cancer risks and improve outcomes for those who carry a BRCA mutation.
