Social Action

Social action is not so much a committee these days, it has become a way of life at CTJ.

Thanks to all who donated food to Project Needs Food Pantry for the High holiday Food drive. It was a great success and their largest and their most valuable collection of the year. There are ongoing involvement opportunities If you are interest in helping to sort, pack or serve food (contact Adriana projectneedsrb@gmail.com) BUT first and foremost, plan to join us to host a Christmas Day Dinner at Project Needs Food Pantry in St Paul's United Methodist in Redondo Beach. CTJ has offered to staff and serve at this event, so all volunteers and donations are much needed! Set up is at 1pm, serve 2pm-4pm, then clean up and head over to CTJ in time for the Chanukah Latke Throw-down!

January 22 from 10am to noon in the CTJ sanctuary, come meet and greet some of our local non-profits and various the charitable organizations CTJ has worked with at our MITZVAH FAIR!

Learn about the many fabulous ongoing efforts and rewarding volunteer opportunities available - plus enjoy some engaging mitzvah activities and craft projects as well. For information (or suggestions!) on this event and the Christmas food pantry dinner, contact Wendy Steinberg, Wendy.Steinberg@maritz.com

Sisterhood recently helped Project Chicken Soup prepare food for people with HIV/AIDS, and their outerwear clothing drive for Westside Homeless Outreach is now wrapping up (pun intended). Get your last minute donations in to the CTJ lobby. For more information, contact Sisterhood liaison Linda Freid, lindaluvspink@yahoo.com.

CTJ member Brett Levine recently organized a very successful Feed the Homeless event with Chabad at the Midnight Mission in downtown LA. The next project he is heading (pun intended) is a LOCKS OF LOVE hair cutting ceremony and celebration on Sunday, January 29.For more info contact Brett drbrettl@gmail.com
Imagine LA Homelessness Project is now re-launching! We had previously partnered with "adopted" families in transition from homelessness. And now ILA has beefed up their infrastructure in the South Bay so we hope to be even more successful in supporting our future partner family. For info on how you can help call Gwen Wexler gwen.wexler@ctjmb.org
Gwen is also CTJ's representative to Jewish World Watch. Plan to Walk to End Genocide on Sunday, April  29. Contact Gwen for more information.
As many of you know, Religious School and Kehilat Kesher students
have many ongoing community service events such Heal the Bay beach cleanup days, collections for School on Wheels, Lunches with Love for homeless, visits to Assisted Care facilities and much more….for info on how your family can participate, contact Cantor Beth Garden, bmitzvah@ctjmb.org.
Save the date Sunday March  4 - Michael Mitzvah Day will include activities for all ages.
And of course you can always support my own personal mitzvah (AKA rescue) efforts...Kitten anyone?
